Thy Name : Notes

Thy Name was done for a Seven Day Challenge sponsored by Megazeen and Community Comics. The deal was to make 14 pages of comic (plus 1 cover and 1 back cover) in 7 days. It was challenging for me, no duh, as Psychoteers and close friends KNOW how lazy I am ::laughs nervously::. Anyway I started immediately, taking a day and half to think up a plot. I wanted something simple with 3 people or less (so it's quicker and easier) and a setting that doesn't really need excessive backgrounds.

Wala!! Thy Name has only 2 characters (Kate and Joseph) and the setting is in a dark building to which I don't really have to draw much HAHAHAHA!! Anyway, the space problem was giving me a headache; again my friends know how hard it is for me to write a short story less a short comic. I had to squeeze as much plot as I can into 14 pages without squishing the panels together. In the end I had to replace pictures with just dialog and text to save time.

There's a lot of time and character interaction that I left out (cause it won't fit!!) so the story does seem a bit choppy. It nagged me so much that I ended up making a written version which is sort of the complete story I had in mind. The written version is much more graphic and the language is.... er... crude. I don't 'pull my punches' as a brother in Christ once said to me, and I agree with him. But then this time I feel a bit overboard and I decided to 'censor' a part in the written version (there were a few colorful 'f' words). I know this is a Christian theme comic/story but I have a thing for details. If bad things were said, I will write it down, it just shows how dark the world is now days.

I started planning on Saturday and started drawing on Monday. Sketching out everything took 3-4 days I think. And then I scanned it in and inked it in OpenCanvas. Oh one thing though, in the original plot Joseph does die. It wasn't until I was drawing the last few pages I decided to let him live hahaha which explains the weird last 2 pages. Anyway, inking took up the most of the time and I finished by Friday or Saturday. Spent Saturday giving tones and text in Photoshop. WHEW!! I finished JUST IN TIME!!!

Before I knew it, I've grown attached to Kate and Joseph, should I do a sequel? Since this is a Christian romance story I think it'll be fun to see how they get together for good. I'll put up a poll to see what you guys think ^^ (it'll be in written format but illustrated, like half writing half comic)

All in all I had a fun time pushing myself. Hahaha, this comic is one of the comics that I regard as 'one of the worse of Ann' but to think about it, yeah, I still had fun. I hope the comic/story gives someone inspiration. Stay in the Light. ^__^
